Howdy:
For those of you that aren't familar
with using and accessing an IRLP node, here are a few easy help
steps:
1. Before attempting to
use the AB7CQ IRLP Node you must do the following:
a) First, set your PL tone to
114.8, if you don't know how to do that, you can find the PL tone setting
procedure in the manual that came with your radio, not all nodes have the
same PL tone.
In order to find the correct PL
tone for the node you wish to use (NOT CALLING), you can go to the IRLP site at (http://www.irlp.net/)
to find out this information. Once you get to the
IRLP site you'll see, on the left side of the page a list, click
the one titled "NODE INFO", a page will
open with a new menu, click the one titled "List of nodes
and frequencies."
On the top of the page you will see
various options, click the one titled "All Nodes."
There you will see a large list of nodes. Scroll down to the node you're looking
for, when you find the one you'd like to connect to, you'll see a number in blue on the far left side, click it.
A new window will open and you'll
see all the information about that specific node, including that
nodes PL Tone Frequency.
2. Let's say you want to connect to
node 4294, I connect to this node quite often to chat with personal friends
back in Wisconsin.
Let's say you want to connect
to node 4294, and want to use my node to make the
connection.
First make sure that you're on my node
frequency: 146.580 simplex, next be sure that you've set the PL tone to 114.8,
if you've done this correctly, you can then identify yourself, and keeping
your PTT engaged, type the number 4294, you will be connected to the Iola
Wisconsin 4294 node. You'll hear an announcement varifiing that
you're connected to that node, then simply call the station using your
ham callsign and the ham callsign of the station you're calling.
Once you've completed
your conversation with the other station you must disconnect from the node,
to accomplish that, simply press your radio's PTT button and
type 73, you'll hear an announcement that
you have sucessfully disconnected from the node.
This may seem a little confusing in the
beginning, however, it's really simple and you'll get the hang of it in no
time.
I'm generally monitoring the frequency,
so if you need help, please feel free to ask, like my father always told
me, "the only stupid question is the one you didn't
ask." We're all here to have fun, so enjoy the IRLP node system, you can
connect and talk to other hams from all over the world, it's just like using a
repeater.
Please remember to disconnect from
the node or reflector when you are finished using it by sending DTMF 73 (NO
VOICE). Although IRLP incorporates a default 4 minute no activity time out
feature node to node, it's especially important for mobile, or
portable users of a node or reflector to disconnect from a node
before you are out of range of either. DO NOT USE A NODE IF YOU'RE NOT CERTAIN
THAT YOUR SIGNAL IS SUFFICENT TO MAINTAIN A RELIABLE CONNECTION TO THE NODE
OR REFLECTOR.
D'ont use a reflector for just listening
like a table top radio playing music, the purpose of the reflector is so you can
either join in on a conversation in progress or attempt to make contact with
someone you know.
